Change your user name and initials

The first time you install and use an Office program, you are asked for your user name and initials in a dialog box that looks similar to this:

Your name and initials will be associated with any Office document that you create and will appear in places like comments, revisions, and general document properties. You can enter anything you like, but it’s a good idea to consider who you might be sharing documents with, or reviewing documents for, when choosing a user name. Most people simply use their first and last name.

Change your user name and initials

If you are creating Office documents that will be shared with others, appropriate attribution and correct author information can be important. You can change your user name and initials at any time.

Important: Changing your name or initials in one Office program will change your name and initials in all of the other Office programs installed on your computer.

In the Options dialog box, change your user name and initials in the Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office section.

Note: Excel 2010 uses only a user name, not initials.

In an open document, click the Office button , and then click the Options button at the bottom of the menu.

In OneNote, click the Tools menu, and then click Options.

In Project and Visio, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.

In the dialog box, change your user name and initials in the User Name and Initials boxes. The dialog box that you see may appear different from the example below, depending on the Office program you’re using.

Note: Excel 2007 uses only a user name, not initials.

Prevent a program from asking for user name and initials

You should see the User Name dialog box only once—the first time you open a newly installed Office program. However, if you see this dialog box every time you open a program, you may be able to stop this from happening by changing permissions in the registry.

Warning: This procedure contains steps that tell you how to modify your computer’s registry. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Make sure to follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. From the Windows Start screen in Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista, type regedit.exe in the Search box, and then press Enter.

Note: In Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type regedit.exe, and then press Enter.

In the Registry Editor, browse to the following location: HKEY_Current_UserSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo.

On the Edit menu, click Permissions.

Click your user name.

Select the Allow check box for Full Control.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

ЦЕРН откажется от программного обеспечения Microsoft

ЦЕРН решил перестать использовать продукцию компании Microsoft, так как разработчик программного обеспечения отказал им в статусе «академической организации», из-за чего стоимость использования приложений возрастает десятикратно. Европейская организация объявила крупномасштабный проект по переходу на открытое программное обеспечение, названный The Microsoft Alternatives project (MAlt), сообщается на сайте организации.

Американская компания Microsoft является разработчиком многих широко распространенных программ, в том числе операционной системы Windows, пакета средств для работы с документами Office, приложения для аудио- и видеозвонков Skype и многих других. Большинство этих продуктов предоставляется организациям по платной временной подписке.

В течение последних 20 лет Европейская организация по ядерным исследованиям (ЦЕРН, CERN) пользовалась услугами Microsoft, в том числе Windows, Office и платформы облачных вычислений Azure. ЦЕРН пользовалась статусом академической организации, что предоставляло значительную скидку. Однако недавно Microsoft решила отозвать данный статус, из-за чего стоимость нового контракта, который приходит на смену истекшему в марте 2019 года, оказалась более чем в десять раз выше.

Отдел информационных технологий ЦЕРН предвидел такое развитие событий, поэтому около года назад запустил инициативу The Microsoft Alternatives project (MAlt), в рамках которой ожидается полный отказ от платных продуктов Microsoft. В сообщении отмечается, что стандартные методы расчета стоимости продуктов для частного бизнеса, к которому теперь приравнен ЦЕРН, подразумевают прямую пропорциональность с количеством пользователей. Однако для столь большой некоммерческой организации традиционные методы расчета превращаются в неподъемные суммы.

Авторы инициативы отмечают, что их целью является отказ вообще от всех коммерческих программных продуктов, а не только от разрабатываемых Microsoft. Переход на обеспечение с открытым исходным кодом преследует четыре основные задачи: предоставление прежнего уровня сервиса всем сотрудникам, избегание привязки к поставщику для уменьшения рисков и зависимости, получение полного контроля над собираемыми данными и самостоятельная разработка ключевых сценариев использования программ.

Ученые пока не опубликовали список программ, которым собираются найти замену. Однако они отмечают, что первым значимым изменением будет переход на новый сервис электронной почты. Также ожидается замена Skype на альтернативный метод связи. Многие другие продукты предполагается начать замещать в ближайшее время, полноценный доклад о плане перехода будет представлен 10 сентября.

Необходимо отметить, что с формальной точки зрения ЦЕРН действительно не является академической организацией, так как не выдает научные звания — ключевое отличие от исследовательского института. Также невелико число постоянных сотрудников ЦЕРН, так как большинство сотрудничающих с ним ученых трудоустроены в различных университетах стран-участниц. Тем не менее, ЦЕРН сыграл ключевую роль в развитии многих современных информационных технологий. В частности, его сотрудниками был разработан протокол HTTP и некоторые другие ключевые технологии, ставшие основой современного интернета.

Расположенные в ЦЕРН установки по исследованию фундаментальных частиц производят огромные объемы данных, с потоком которых, в частности, ученым помогают справиться российские программисты из компании «Яндекс». В 2016 году ЦЕРН выложил в открытый доступ 300 терабайт данных, полученных на Большом адронном коллайдере.

Missione

Il CERN è il più grande laboratorio al mondo che svolge la ricerca scientifica sulla fisica delle particelle elementari, si occupa della costruzione, funzionamento e aggiornamenti delle macchine acceleratici Large Hadron Collider-LHC.

Lo scopo principale del CERN è quello di fornire ai ricercatori gli strumenti necessari per la ricerca in fisica delle alte energie. Questi sono appunto principalmente gli acceleratori di particelle, che portano nuclei atomici e particelle subnucleari ad energie molto elevate, e i rivelatori che permettono di osservare i prodotti delle collisioni tra fasci di queste particelle.

La missione del CERN si incentra su quattro aspetti:

Ricerca: fare ricerca e trovare le risposte alle domande sull’universo

Tecnologia: Avanzare le frontiere della tecnologia

Collaborazione: far collaborarele nazioni insieme attraverso la scienza

Educazione: occuparsi della formazione dei ricercatori del domani.

Organizzazione

La dottoressa Fabiola Gianotti, già a capo dell’esperimento ATLAS, dal 1° gennaio 2016 è il nuovo Direttore Generale del Centro.

I rappresentanti dell’Italia presso l’Organizzazione sono l’Ambasciatore, Capo della Rappresentanza Permanente d’Italia presso le Nazioni Unite e le Organizzazioni Internazionali di Ginevra.

Il Capo della delegazione italiana nel Consiglio (organo decisionale) è il Presidente dell’Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare-INFN. L’INFN partecipa alle attività del Centro con le università italiane interessate.

Oltre al Consiglio operano al CERN altri organi collegiali: il Comitato Finanziario e il Comitato per la Politica scientifica.

Attività

Il CERN ha recentemente inaugurato la fase di implementazione dell’acceleratore di particelle LHC — Large Hadron Collider- situato nei laboratori sotterranei tra Ginevra e il confine francese. Gli esperimenti, che vengo svolti attraverso LHC, sono un lodevole esempio di coordinamento di collaborazioni internazionali al cui interno trovano posti di rilievo scienziati italiani. A tal riguardo, è bene citare la stessa dottoressa Fabiola Gianotti, quale responsabile del più grande fra gli esperimenti, ATLAS, e la prima ad aver annunciato, nel luglio del 2012, la scoperta del Bosone di Higgs.

La dottoressa Gianotti ha introdotto un nuovo direttorato che si occuperà delle relazioni internazionali, allo scopo di migliorare le relazioni con gli Stati membri e la comunicazione esterna. Le direttrici del programma che riguarderà il prossimo futuro saranno tre:

lo sfruttamento massimo dell’acceleratore di particelle

il proseguimento di tutti gli esperimenti in corso

la ricerca necessaria alla costruzione dell’acceleratore del futuro, il quale dovrà avere una lunghezza variabile tra gli 80 e 100 km (quello attuale è di 27 km).

3 Releasae of the Pre-Registration Tool (PRT)  PRT was released on 17 th of July 2014  Our special thanks go to the CERN management, the PH management, and the GS department for providing resources for the development of the tool and to GS-AIS-HR  PRT is available for the Pre-Registration of new USERs, Cooperation Associates and Visiting scientists before their arrival at CERN  PRT cannot be used for Contract Extension and Change of Institute (different databases); EDH continues to be the relevant tool for contract extensions  PRT was introduced to ease further the registration at CERN and to help minimizing delays for the newcomer that could occur due to incomplete documents when registering and in being granted access to the site and to computing resources. 4 Advantages of PRT  Personal data and relevant documents can be provided by the newcomer electronically.  The Team Leader can sign electronically via the tool and their signature is binding for the registration. Pre-registration via the PRT tool replaces the paper Registration Form.  The Users’ Office verifies the data and documents prior to the person’s arrival at CERN.  Once having arrived at CERN the registration time in the Users’ Office is largely reduced.  The Team Leader can nominate a trusted person to help future team members in pre-registering. 7 Team Leaders  A Team Leaders or Deputy Team Leader must be a Member of the Personnel at CERN; commonly a Team Leader is a USER  The role of a Team Leader is coupled to the contract with CERN  But182 Team Leaders have the status EXMP ; this means that we cannot communicate with these Team Leaders. 305 Team Leaders are Experiment Participants.  Institutes must insure that their Team Leaders have a valid contract with CERN.
